Dr. Alston is a passionate psychologist in the fields of both clinical and school psychology. In addition, Dr. Alston has always had an innate desire to help people of all ages and from various walks of life with the challenges and obstacles that life has brought them.
She attended Hampton University, receiving her Bachelor of Science in Psychology. After that, Dr. Alston began working as a therapist at Seabrook House in Bridgeton, NJ. A residential drug and alcohol treatment facility that fostered mothers who were chemically dependent and allowed them to be reunified with their children while in the program. She has an LCADC (Licensed Clinical and Alcohol and Drug Counselor) from Richard Stockton College.
Dr. Alston continued to work as a therapist in the outpatient setting with male clients on parole, probation, drug court, and mandated by the court system for substance abuse treatment. In therapy, she delivered cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and other evidence-based treatments to clients with a wide range of emotional, behavioral, and adjustment problems, such as anxiety, stress, depression, etc. She was pleased to witness positive transformations using CBT, DBT, and evidence-based practices with clients.
Dr. Alston later obtained her Master of Science in School Psychology and worked as a school psychologist in the Penns-Grove Carneys Point School District. She provided individual and group counseling to students. Dr. Alston administered psycho-educational evaluations to students suspected of having a learning disability and developed Individualized Education Plans (IEP). She participated on many committees, helping promote students' academic and behavioral success. Dr. Alston provided ongoing consultation to parents, administration, and school personnel. She worked in school settings with preschoolers and elementary, middle, and high school-aged students.
Dr. Alston has much experience in the field of neuropsychology. While completing her doctoral program in clinical psychology, she worked under the supervision of a clinical neuropsychologist performing neuropsychological evaluations and therapy services for individuals of all ages. She later completed her graduate program and received her doctorate in clinical psychology.
Dr. Alston is a member of the New Jersey School Psychologists Association and the American Psychological Association. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her loved ones, reading, meditating, working out, and going to the spa.
